Task App
Self-hosted Plane ate a VPS to track a personal to-do list. This is a Google Keep-style replacement: two containers, SQLite, subtasks, categories, one password.
- 13 → 2
- containers
- 10
- volumes retired
- FastAPI
- SQLite
- React
- JWT
- Docker
The problem
I was running a full project-management suite — thirteen containers and ten volumes — for tasks in three categories. It was the heaviest thing on the server and the least pleasant to use.
My role
Sole author, plus the migration off the old system.
What I built
- 01
A small FastAPI service over SQLite, two containers, both bound to localhost behind nginx.
- 02
Categories, backlog/todo/doing/done, subtasks and ordering — a flat model with no ceremony.
- 03
Single-password login issuing a 30-day JWT, because the only user is me.
- 04
A documented API with a backup of the old system kept until the new one had proven itself in daily use.
Outcome
The old stack came down and the host load went with it; the data came across in one export.
It's now the only place my tasks live, and it opens instantly on a phone.
